Strengthen the presence of Madrid in the world

Madrid City Council’s internationalization activities aim to strengthen the city’s presence abroad and enhance its territory and population. The city is an increasingly important actor in all aspects of the global agenda, which allows it to move towards creating environments that promote a better quality of life for its residents in various aspects.

Impulse

Foster Madrid’s international relations with other cities around the world, local organisations, city networks, and international bodies and organisations.

Promote

Promote Madrid City Council’s presence and participation in leading multilateral agencies worldwide.

Create alliances

Create strategic alliances and collaborations with international institutions, bodies and organisations with a presence in Madrid.

Preparing, attending and organizing

Prepare, serve and organise visits by delegations from other cities, countries and international institutions to the Madrid City Council.

Represent and participate

Represent and participate in the governing bodies of public diplomacy institutions and foundations of which the Madrid City Council is a trustee.

Inform

Inform the different municipal departments and bodies about the City Council’s objectives and priorities for strategy and international relations. Gather information on matters and initiatives of interest to them.

Manage

Manage Declarations of Intent, Memoranda of Understanding and Collaboration with cities and organisations to strengthen exchanges and goodwill between the Madrid City Council and its partners.

Collaborate

Collaborate in protocol activities such as presenting the Golden Key to the City and signing the Book of Honour for visiting heads of state.

Internationalization Strategy

The Internationalization Strategy 2022-2025 provides an overview of Madrid’s presence on the international stage and the plans and projects to further expand it in the context of the growing importance of urban issues on the global agenda. It is the fruit of a diagnostic analysis and participation by almost a hundred international organisations involved with the City Council.
