INTERNATIONALIZATION
Last 16th May, the Councilor of the Delegate Area of Internationalization and Cooperation, Mr. Santiago Saura, participated in the 18º meeting of the Banking Sector organised by the IESE Business School in collaboration with Wharton Research Data Service.
The meeting took place during two days – the 16th and 17th May – and was entitled “Banking: Navigating the wave of inflation”. It discussed improvements in financial regulation, bank supervision and corporate governance, as well as the resilience of the sector during the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine thanks to greater consolidation and international coordination.
Emphasis was also placed on the role that banking will play in ensuring that the country's economy does not suffer excessively, working hand in hand with the Administration to ensure the achievement of social goals such as alleviating the increased burden on families' mortgages due to the rise in interest rates, ensuring that viable companies and businesses do not perish due to financial difficulties thanks to the preventive restructuring established in the new Bankruptcy Law or the financing of digitalisation and the prevention of money laundering, among others.
The Councilor participated in the session "AMLA: Candidatura de Madrid", in which he intervened by explaining the characteristics and strong assets of the candidacy of the City of Madrid to accommodate the headquarters of the future European Authority against the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (AMLA). The Councilor participated in this conference with the General Director of the Treasury and Financial Policy of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Mr. Álvaro López Barceló. The conference was moderated by the IESE Professor Mr. Germán López Espinosa.
