MADRID IS INTERNATIONAL

On November 8, a delegation from the province of Hubei was received at Madrid City Hall. The Chinese province, which has more than 58 million inhabitants, is the tenth provincial economy in China.

The delegation was led by Ms Wang Yanling, Secretary of the CCP Party Leadership Group and Executive Vice President of the Standing Committee of the Hubei Provincial People's Congress.

They were received by Ms. Marta Rivera de la Cruz, Delegate Councilor of the Culture Area, who welcomed them on behalf of the Madrid City Council.

Next, Ms. María José Barrero, General Coordinator of Culture, gave a presentation on the cultural and tourism activities related to China that are carried out by the Madrid City Council, among which the Chinese New Year and film festivals stand out.

The following interventions were led by the General Director of Commerce, Ms. Concepción Díaz de Villegas, and the General Director of Education, Youth and Volunteering, Mr. Carlos Blanco, who presented the different programs that are being carried out in the city of Madrid, related to commerce and youth.

Next, Ms. Wang Yanling introduced the province of Hubei, whose capital Wuhan is a large scientific and university centre in the country, with which the Complutense University has signed a collaboration agreement.

Finally, Ms. Rocío Picón, Deputy Director General of Relations with Cities and Countries, and Mr. Ricardo Iglesias, Head of the External Relations Service, as organizers of the meeting, also participated, highlighting the 50 years of relations between Spain and China that are being celebrated this year, as well as the numerous visits that are received every year from this country. Moreover, cooperation agreements between Madrid with the Chinese cities Beijing, Chongqing and Chengdu, were signed in 1985, 2019 and 2022, respectively
